Checkers Add Tsimikalis To Lineup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers Derek Wilkinson announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Peter Tsimikalis.

Tsimikalis, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, spent his first full season as a professional last year. The Toronto native suited up in 40 games with the Columbia Inferno scoring nine goals, 18 assists for 27 points while adding four goals and four assists for eight points during the team's 13 post-season contests. He also spent time with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League skating in 29 games garnering two goals, six assists for eight points.

"Peter is a dynamic center and is capable of not only putting up points but also being responsible defensively," remarked Wilkinson.

Tsimikalis will be attending the training camp of the Checkers AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

The Checkers are getting ready for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Opening night will take place on Halloween against the Augusta Lynx at a special 8 p.m. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
