Salmon Kings' Defenseman Returns

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Darren Deschamps for the 2008-09 season.

The Calgary, AB native played in 42 games for the Salmon Kings last season collecting four assists with 39 penalty minutes. In five playoff games he added one assist.

"Darren is solid defenseman that takes care of his own end," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He's also a great person who is a positive addition to the locker room."

The 6-2, 200lbs Deschamps is entering his third professional season. In 2005-06 he played for the Kalamazoo Wings in the UHL, amassing one goal, one assist, and 34 minutes in penalties in 32 games.

The 23-year-old spent three years in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets. Over his three seasons in the Okanagan Valley he collected 3 goals and 20 assists for 23 points with 182 penalty minutes in 169 games. In 2005, Darren notched four points, (one goal, three assists) in 24 playoff games, with 16 penalty minutes en-route to the Memorial Cup with the Kelowna Rockets.

Deschamps is the 13th player the Salmon Kings have signed for the upcoming season. He joins fellow forwards Jacob Dietrich, Jordan Foote, Marc Fulton, Wes Goldie, Shaun Landolt, Darryl Lloyd, Chris St. Jacques and Jeremy Schenderling as well as defenseman Matt Kelly, Mike Nesdill, Jeremy Swanson and Tim Wedderburn.
