Charlotte FC News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte FC today announced the Club has signed forward Kerwin Vargas from Portuguese side C.D. Feirense to a contract until 2024 with option years for 2025 and 2026.
The move is pending receipt of a P-1 visa and ITC.
The 20-year-old will occupy an international roster slot on the Club's inaugural roster. Vargas becomes the Club's second U-22 initiative player.
Vargas, who joined C.D. Feirense as an academy player, was promoted to the first team in July 2021 and quickly made his senior debut against FC Famalicão in the Allianz Cup. His first goal with the Club came in his second league match against C.D. Mafra which was the game winner in a 1-0 victory. During his time with the Club, Vargas scored 7 goals in his 28 appearances in league play.
Outside of league play, he scored a thunderous goal against Portuguese giants FC Porto in the Taça de Portugal.
"We're excited to finalize the transfer of Kerwin to Charlotte FC ahead of the transfer window closing later this week. He has quickly proven to be a goalscoring threat at the professional level during his first season in Portugal and has the potential to grow into a well-rounded forward in this league," said Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. "He's a pacey, direct forward who can play on the wing or at striker and is a courageous competitor. He is excited about the move to Charlotte where he can continue to grow into his own in senior football and we look forward to welcoming him in the coming weeks."
In his first season of professional football, the young Colombian has won six Man of the Match awards in the 2021-22 campaign.
