(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Dante Bichette Jr. singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as the Charleston RiverDogs defeated the Lexington Legends 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The loss was Lexington's 11th in a row.

Two homers helped the Legends take a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Nolan Fontana led off with a double, and

Teoscar Hernandez followed with a home run over the left field bleachers. The home run came on the first pitch of Hernandez' first at-bat as a Legend. He had joined the team Saturday after being promoted from the Gulf Coast League. Justin Gominsky, celebrating his 23rd birthday, followed with a solo home run to left field to give the Legends a three-run advantage.

Charleston came back with a run in the fourth. Ben Gamel led off with a double, and Saxon Butler was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved Gamel to third and Butler to second, and Bichette singled to center field, plating Gamel with the RiverDogs' first run.

Charleston took the lead with three runs in the sixth. Eduardo Sosa led off the inning with a home run to right-center field. One out later, Nick McCoy doubled to left. After Cito Culver walked, Rob Refsnyder reached on an infield single, plating McCoy with the tying run and moving Culver to third. Culver scored the go-ahead run as

Gamel grounded into a force play at second base.

The Legends tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth. With two out, Ruben Sosa legged out a double to left field. He moved to third on Jordan Kreke's infield single, and scored when Matt Duffy lined a single to left field.

The game remained tied until the top of the ninth. Gamel led off with a single, and moved to second on a single by Butler. That set up Bichette's single to right field, plating Gamel and giving the RiverDogs the lead for good.

Fred Lewis (7-2) entered the game in the eighth inning and got the win after pitching two scoreless innings.

Nathan Pettus (1-6) went three innings for Lexington, but gave up the run in the ninth, and was handed the loss.

After a league-wide day off on Monday, the Legends will travel to Hickory, North Carolina for a three-game series with the Crawdads beginning on Tuesday. First pitch at L.P. Frans Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
