CHARLESTON, WV - The Hickory Crawdads recorded their ninth shutout win of the season, and second in the last three games, with a 9-0 victory against the West Virginia Power, before 1,713 fans at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, WV on Sunday . 1B Trever Adams helped pace the offense with a perfect 5-for-5 game, driving in three RBIs with two doubles, three singles and one run scored.

After Hickory LHP Kevin Matthews (W, 3-4) and West Virginia RHP Robby Rowland (L, 8-5) alternated three scoreless innings to start the game, the Crawdads broke through in the top of the fourth frame. With one down, 3B Drew Robinson reached on a double down the left-field line. One out later, CF Jordan Akins placed an RBI single through the left side of the infield, scoring Robinson for the 1-0 lead.

Matthews kept Hickory in the narrow lead through the remainder of his outing, dealing five scoreless innings on the day. He struck out four batters, while scattering only three hits and walking just one.

LHP Greg Williams relieved Matthews with a scoreless bottom of the sixth, before the Crawdads opened the lead with four more runs against LHP Orlando Castro in the top of the seventh. Akins struck again with a double to start off the frame. 2B Rougned Odor then laid down a sacrifice bunt that Castro fielded but fired wide of first base, enabling Akins to come all the way home on the play and putting Odor at second base. After a base hit by SS Nick Urbanus, Adams knocked an RBI single to score Odor. One out later, C Kellin Deglan hammered a two-run double off the right-field wall, plating both Urbanus and Adams to make it 5-0.

Williams tossed another scoreless inning in the bottom of the seventh, and then Hickory tacked on two more tallies in the top of the eighth inning against LHP Rinku Singh. With one away, Akins worked a walk and Odor singled himself aboard, putting two runners on. After a strikeout, Adams contributed his fifth hit of the day, a two-run double to stretch the lead to 7-0.

RHP Santo Perez followed Williams with the final two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, closing the 7-0 shutout win for the Crawdads.
