Charleston's 5-4 Win Completes Sweep

LEXINGTON, KY - Dante Bichette, Jr. broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI single in the ninth inning to give the Charleston RiverDogs a 5-4 triumph over the Lexington Legends in South Atlantic League action on Sunday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The victory completed a four-game sweep by the RiverDogs and upped their record to 67-62 (28-34 in the second half). The Legends suffered their 11thstraight defeat and they are now 67-64 (28-34 in the second half).

The rally that produced the win started with consecutive singles by Ben Gamel (2-5, RBI, 2 runs) and Saxon Butler off relief pitcher Nathan Pettus (1-6). Bichette (2-2, 2 RBI) then followed with a third straight base knock to score Gamel with what would prove to be the winning run. Fred Lewis (7-2), who pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to seal the game, earned his seventh win.

Lexington jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second thanks to back-to-back homers by Teoscar Hernandez, his first, and Justin Gominski, his second. Hernandez's clout was a two-run job that came after Nolan Fontana doubled to start the inning and Gominski's immediately followed.

Charleston crept to within two in the fourth on a Bichette RBI single. Two innings later, they scored three times to take the lead. Eduardo Sosa started things by leading-off the inning with his second homer of the year. Later in the inning, with two on and one out, Rob Refsnyder legged out an infield single to score Nick McCoy with the tying run. Cito Culver scored the go-ahead run one batter later on a fielder's choice and the RiverDogs had a 4-3 lead.

Lexington immediately tied the game in their half of the sixth on an RBI single and the game stayed even until the ninth.

The RiverDogs have Monday off, then on Tuesday they start their final homestand of the season with a game against the West Virginia Power set to begin at 7:05 pm. Pitching the series opener will be RHP Bryan Mitchell (7-11, 5.08 ERA) for Charleston and LHP Zachary Fuesser for West Virginia (3-6, 4.15 ERA). Fans can come out to cast their vote in the Bobblection 2012 Presidential Bobblehead Giveaway between Republican candidate Governor Mitt Romney and Democratic candidate President Barack Obama. There will be 500 bobbleheads of each candidate available and the first to run out will be declared the winner. There will also be buy-one, get-one ticket specials at the stadium box office on Two-for Tuesday, craft beers on tap on Craft Beer Tap Tuesday and $3 aluminum pints the Ashley View Pub on MillerCoors Aluminum Pint Nite.
