Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston RiverDogs failed to score a run in the final home game of the season, as they fell 3-0 to the Asheville Tourists in front of 5,014 fans Wednesday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Isaias Tejeda hit a solo home run in the 11th inning to lift the RiverDogs to a 4-3 walk-off victory over Asheville in the conclusion of Tuesday's suspended game. However, Charleston (29-36 second half, 63-72 overall) failed to score in Wednesday night's regularly-scheduled game.
Asheville (37-27, 69-65) jumped in front with three runs in the fourth. With the bases loaded and no out, Matt Marsh entered the game to replace the starter Anyelo Gomez (0-1). After striking out Yonathan Daza, Marsh made a fielding error on a ground ball back to the mound and Dom Nunez scored the first run.
Luis Jean drew a walk to bring home Roberto Ramos. Max White scored the third run of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Omar Carrizales.
The RiverDogs loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Angel Aguilar grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat. Josh Michalec retired the RiverDogs in order in the ninth to earn his South Atlantic League-leading 29th save of the season.
Carlos Polanco (9-10) pitched seven shutout innings in the win for Asheville. Gomez lost his first start with the RiverDogs and gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits.
With an attendance of 5,014 at Wednesday's game, the RiverDogs have set a new single-season high with a total of 292,661. This surpassed the previous record of 284,718 set in 2007. THANK YOU FANS! The RiverDogs finished two games under .500 on the season at 34-36. The 2016 schedule has been unleashed and is online at RiverDogs.com.
