Greenville Drive News Release

Rome, GA - Needing a win for a much-needed series victory, things didn't go the Greenville Drive's way on Wednesday night, as the Rome Braves used three multi-run innings to defeat the Drive 6-2 in Greenville's final road game of the regular season.

The Braves (26-39, 57-78) tagged Drive (31-34, 69-66) starter Jalen Beeks (9-6) for eight hits and four runs over the first two innings. A two-out double by Braxton Davidson scored Stephen Gaylor to put the Braves up 1-0, and Tanner Murphy's RBI single plated a second run.

J.T. Watkins tied things up for the Drive in the top of the second with a two-run single that scored Nick Longhi, who doubled, and Danny Mars, who reached on an error. Rome answered right back with two more runs on an RBI single by Joseph Daris and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Edgerton.

Oriel Caicedo (5-7) got the win for Rome after allowing just two unearned runs over six innings and striking out five without issuing a walk.

After Beeks was removed from the game, the Drive received four shutout frames of relief from Jamie Callahan, who punched out four Braves while only giving up one hit and one walk.

Rome tacked on two more runs in the seventh to pull away. A Drive error put the leadoff man on third, and an infield single by Omar Obregon made the score 5-2. Matt Tellor's sacrifice fly later in the inning capped the scoring for the Braves.

Longhi collected three hits on the night for Greenville. Watkins added two hits and two RBI, and Joseph Monge picked up a pair of hits as well. Rome's 14-hit attack was paced by three-hit nights from Gaylor and Obregon. Davidson and Erison Mendez chipped in with two hits apiece.

With five games remaining in the regular season, the Drive now trail the Asheville Tourists by a half-game in the overall Southern Division standings. The team that finishes higher in the overall standings clinches the Southern Division wild card spot in the playoffs, while the other team will be eliminated.

The final homestand of the season for the Drive begins on Thursday night at 7:05 PM as they welcome the Savannah Sand Gnats, winner of both halves in the Southern Division, to Fluor Field. LH Luis Ramos (3-3, 6.07) is scheduled to start the opener for the Drive, and RH Josh Prevost (6-4, 3.76) takes the ball for the Sand Gnats.
