Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (40-35) left the bases loaded three times in a 5-2 loss in ten innings to the Jacksonville Suns (37-40) Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
With the game tied at two in the tenth inning, Shawn Bowman ripped a Kirby Yates (0-2) fastball off the fence in left-center to plate Jake Smolinski and break the tie. Curt Smith followed with a two-run home run to open up a 5-2 advantage for Jacksonville. A.J. Ramos (6) pitched a perfect tenth inning to pick up the save.
The Biscuits' offense left the bases loaded in the third, fourth and had another bases loaded chance in the ninth inning. The Suns brought in Corey Madden (2-1) to face Tyler Bortnick who struck out swinging to end the threat and send the game to extras. Montgomery stranded 12 runners on base while going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Madden picked up the win for the Suns by retiring the only batter he faced. Yates allowed three runs in the final two innings on four hits for his second loss of the season. Kyle Lobstein allowed two runs on only two hits and four walks in five innings for the no decision.
The teams traded solo home runs in the second inning to start the scoring. Kyle Jensen hit his ninth of the year while Bortnick hit his fourth and extended his hitting streak to 13 games which is a season-high for any Biscuit this season. After the Suns took a 2-1 lead, Montgomery tied the game at two with an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Mayo Acosta in the sixth inning.
RHP Jake Thompson will take the mound for the Biscuits Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Bryan Evans will start for the Suns.
