Knoxville Smokies News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - Looking to keep the offensive onslaught from the night before, the Tennessee Smokies were unable to match the Birmingham Barons hit parade, suffering their first loss of the series, 11-0. The Smokies were only able to collect three hits on the night. The loss puts the Smokies at 3-4 in the second half, 38-39 overall.

Birmingham (4-3, 34-42) scored quickly on Smokies starting pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee. Following a single by Jose Martinez, Andy Wilkins homered to right field to give the Barons the early lead, 2-0.

Rhee (4-4) surrendered four more runs on four hits in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 6-0. Rhee left the game after four innings allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits while allowing a walk and striking out one.

There would be no rally though as the Barons tagged the Smokies' bullpen once Rhee left, scoring five more times over the next four innings. Relievers Casey Harman and Jeff Antigua allowed a combined five runs on 14 hits over their five innings of work.

Mike Burgess, Jim Adduci and Logan Watkins collected Tennessee's three hits on the night. Watkins extended his hitting streak to 10 games

Birmingham's Andre Rienzo (2-0) got the win, allowing no runs on only three hits in seven innings of work.

Tennessee and Birmingham will continue their five-game series on Thursday at 6:15 at Smokies Park. The Smokies will call on RHP Trey McNutt (4-6, 4.11) and the Barons will counter with LHP Spencer Arroyo (1-0, 1.80).
