CF Montréal Organizes BMO Women's Soccer Week
July 10, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced Monday the organization of the first edition of the BMO Women's Soccer Week, from July 10 to 16. This week of content and activities aims to shine a light on women's soccer, keep young girls active and promote advancement in gender equity.
"BMO Women's Soccer Week was created to generate interest and engagement around our sport and the women's game by showcasing athletes, partners and business leaders who are champions of equity in sport," said CF Montréal women's soccer collaborator Amy Walsh. "In collaboration with BMO, the Club is committed to launching initiatives for young women soccer players to give them access to opportunities that did not exist for my generation. This investment not only helps create a tangible development pathway, but also provides a platform to highlight and celebrate our province's incredible young talent."
" As the Bank of Soccer, BMO invests in partnerships that foster the growth of soccer while removing barriers to inclusion. BMO Women's Soccer Week will inspire thousands of young athletes to reach their full potential on the field and in their professional and personal lives, while aligning with our values of equality and inclusion to make progress in our communities. Congratulations to CF Montréal for this initiative," said Grégoire Baillargeon, President, BMO, Quebec.
On Wednesday July 12, girls aged 9 to 14 will be invited to Stade Saputo for an awareness-raising workshop on the benefits of practising sport (nutrition, mental and physical health, socialization), followed by a soccer clinic organized by players from CF Montréal Academy Women's Program.
This will be followed by the BMO Panel at Stade Saputo on Thursday, July 13, under the theme of "Equity in the World of Sport". This event will bring together the Club's corporate partners, a number of premium members, special guest panellists, as well as players from CF Montréal Academy Women's Program and their parents. In addition, the full-length documentary Au Féminin, which recounts the players' trip to Paris last April, will also be premiered.
On Saturday, July 15, "Celebrating Women's Soccer" will be the theme of the evening at Stade Saputo during CF Montréal's MLS match against Charlotte FC, presented by BMO. The Club will be showcasing athletes in the stadium, including a digital display in the BMO Soccer Celebration Zone. Players and staff from the women's program will also be formally recognized at halftime.
Earlier in the afternoon, the players will play their final match of the Ligue1 Québec season against CS Longueuil at 2pm at Centre Nutrilait.
Furthermore, throughout the week, players from CF Montréal Academy Women's Program and women's soccer ambassadors will be highlighted, particularly on the Club's official social media channels. The Club will also be organizing two matches between a Nova Scotian club and partner clubs, as well as friendly matches involving the province's best U13 girls.
