Chicago Fire FC News Release

FIRE WIN THREE OF THEIR LAST FOUR!

Chicago Fire FC continues their three-game homestand this Wednesday, July 12, when they host CF Montréal at 7:30 p.m. CT at Soldier Field. Last Saturday saw the Fire continue their strong form, with midfielder Fabian Herbers scoring the lone goal in the match to give Chicago a 1-0 victory over second-place Nashville SC. The victory secured three points for Chicago, as well as their first win over Nashville in franchise history.

Soldier Field welcomed 22,346 spectators, in what was the third highest attendance number in Major League Soccer for Matchday 23. It was also the largest attendance number for a Chicago Fire FC home match this season.

With the victory, Chicago currently sits in a five-way tie for the ninth and final playoff spot with 26 points. Currently tied with Montréal, New York Red Bulls, Charlotte, and NYCFC, the Fire look to continue their push to the postseason on Wednesday.

THE HOMESTAND CONTINUES!

Chicago Fire FC returns to the lakefront with a pair of home matches taking place this Wednesday, July 12 when the Fire host CF Montréal, and on Saturday, July 15 against Toronto FC. These two matches close out the three-game homestand before the Fire head into the All-Star break.

The Fire (6-7-8, 26 points) are set to face CF Montréal (8-11-2, 26 points) first, in what will be the 26th all-time meeting between the two clubs in regular season play. The Fire are 7-12-6 all-time against the Québécois side, with a record of 5-3-3 on home field. Despite having won five matches in Chicago, the Fire search for their first win against Montréal at Soldier Field. The Fire also look to win snap a four-game skid against CF Montréal, with the Canadian side sweeping the season series in 2022 and 2021.

Just three days after, the Fire play host to Toronto FC (3-10-10, 19 points) who are currently sitting in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference. The Fire are 10-14-12 all-time against Toronto, with Saturday being the second and final meeting between the two sides this season. In their previous meeting, the two sides saw the match end in a 0-0 draw. Highlighted by a seven save performance from Homegrown goalkeeper Chris Brady, the Fire picked up a valuable road point north of the border.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY PERFORMANCES FROM MAURICIO PINEDA AND FABIAN HERBERS!

Chicago Fire FC had an incredible pair of performances from midfielders Fabian Herbers and Brian Gutierrez. Following the pair of victories last week, Gutierrez was named to Team of the Matchday for Matchday 20, and Herbers was named for Matchday 21.

Gutierrez, the Homegrown youngster, leads the team with seven assists so far this season and is currently in fifth place in assists in Major League Soccer. With his two assists against Portland, Gutiérrez became the 10th player in MLS history to record 15 career assists before turning 21 years old. The victory also elevated Chicago to 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings, just three points below the playoff line.

Just a few days later, Herbers was awarded with Team of the Matchday honors after scoring his first game-winning goal of the season, which proved to be the difference between the two teams against Kansas City. It was Herbers' 11th career goal for the Fire and his third of 2023. He would start on the TOTM Starting 11 for this week after yet another solid performance in the clean sheet victory over Kansas City.
