CF Montréal Exercises Permanent Transfer Option for Ahmed Hamdi

MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced Tuesday the decision to exercise the permanent transfer option for midfielder Ahmed Hamdi. On loan this season from Egyptian club El Gouna FC, Hamdi signed a two-year deal with the Montreal side, which extends the player's contract through 2023 with an option for 2024.

"We are pleased with the decision we have made with Ahmed," said CF Montréal Sporting Director Olivier Renard. "A first season away from home is never easy, but Ahmed has adapted well to his new reality and his new club. We took the time to analyze the situation and we are satisfied with what he has shown so far this season. We are confident that he can give us even more in the future."

In his first season in MLS the 23-year-old played 19 matches, including eight as a starter, and logged 763 minutes on the pitch. He scored a brace July 17 against FC Cincinnati at Stade Saputo.

After playing with El Ahly Cairo's U23 team, he officially joined the first team in 2018, collecting two goals and three assists in 18 games. Hamdi was then loaned to El Gouna FC for the 2019 season, before being permanently transferred on September 17, 2019. There, he tallied seven goals and three assists in 42 games in the Egyptian Premier League. Last January, prior to joining CF Montréal on loan, he had recorded two goals in four games.

Hamdi has five caps at the international level with the U23 Egyptian national team.
