CF Montréal Acquires Forward Chinonso Offor from the Chicago Fire

Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced Friday the acquisition of forward Chinonso Offor (pronounced Chee-none-soh Oh-for) from the Chicago Fire in return for $325,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM).
The Fire will receive an additional $275,000 in GAM if Offor achieves certain performance-based metrics. Offor is under contract until the end of 2023 with an option for the 2024 season. Chicago also retains the player's transfer fee and salary in 2022, as well as the transfer fee in 2023. Also, Chicago would receive a percentage of a future transfer fee outside of MLS.
"This is an opportunity that arose right before the end of the transfer window. I already knew Chinonso from his time in Europe and the situation in Chicago allowed us to acquire him now for the future," said CF Montréal Vice-President and Chief Sporting Officer Olivier Renard. "He's a young player but physical and powerful. This makes him a great fit for MLS and a long-term project for us. The Fire had invested in him, and the opportunity was very compelling to us. That being said, although the window remains open for players to leave, this move does not signify any impending departures."
The 22-year-old Nigerian has played seven games this season in MLS, including three starts, scoring one goal in 268 minutes of play. Last season, he played in all 34 games for the Fire, including 11 starts, scoring one goal and two assists in 1,307 minutes.
Offor was originally acquired by the Fire on November 13, 2020, via a transfer from FK Rigas Futbola Skola, a first division club in Latvia, where he scored 16 goals in 40 games (across all competitions). He began his professional career in 2019 with BFC Daugavpils, scoring 10 goals in 23 games, earning a starting XI spot in all but one match.
