Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

In a high-scoring affair, Jackson Jutting scored twice in the third period to help Cedar Rapids hold on for a 6-5 win over the Fighting Saints on Friday night. The loss was just the fourth in regulation this season for Dubuque and the first regulation loss against an Eastern Conference team. Cedar Rapids never trailed in the game as the Saints came close but could never get an edge against the Riders. The win for CR snapped a seven-game losing streak as they returned from break with an offensive outburst.

-After just eight goals in their last seven games, Cedar Rapids nearly reached that total in just three periods. The RoughRiders were all over it from the start and finished with 46 shots on net in the win.

-Dubuque trailed 1-0, 3-1, 5-3 and 6-4 before eventually falling 6-5. The Saints battled back from every deficit but couldn't secure the final tally with the goalie pulled.

-Jutting's two third period goals were scored just over a minute apart and looked to be enough for Cedar Rapids. However, with the Fighting Saints persistence a late insurance tally from Nate Hanley turned in to the game winner.

-Ty Jackson, Dubuque's leading point getter, had three points in the game on a goal and two assists. He now leads Dubuque with 30 points having played in all 23 games.

-Braden Doyle continued his point streak, moving it to six games with a three assists night. Doyle now has 11 points in his last six games and continues to pace Dubuque's offense from the blue line.

-Mark Cheremeta had a solid night as well for Dubuque as he potted a power play goal and added an assist as well.

-Grant Silianoff also had a three-point night for CR, as he and Jutting both had three apiece. Silianoff scored the first of the game for Cedar Rapids.

-Ben Meehan had a two point game, matching his point total from the previous 11. Meehan started the season with 13 points through the first nine games.

-Dubuque and CR will be back in action tomorrow night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena for the second of the series.
