Five Chicago Steel Skaters Selected to BioSteel All-American Game
December 27, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel will have five representatives participate in the 2020 BioSteel All-American Game, the most of any USHL team, the league announced Friday. Defenseman Luke Reid and forwards Brendan Brisson, Sam Colangelo, Sean Farrell and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine were selected to represent the first-place Steel.
The BioSteel All-American Game is a showcase of top NHL Draft-eligible players currently playing in the United States. The event allows NHL scouts to witness the best talent the United States has to offer, all in one location, before the 2020 NHL Draft in June.
The game is scheduled for 6 pm CT on Monday, January 20, 2020 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., and will be televised live on NHL Network.
This event is a combination of two previous mid-season games, the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and the All-American Game hosted by USA Hockey. In a new format this year, the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) Under-18 team will square off against a team of the top NHL Draft-eligible players from the USHL.
In addition to being selected for the 2020 BioSteel All-American Game, Brisson, Colangelo, Farrell, Fontaine and Reid represented Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge from Dec. 5-15, helping lead the team to a 5-0-1 record and a bronze medal.
Steel Head Coach Brock Sheahan understands the significance of these honors from both a team and individual perspective.
"As a staff, we are extremely excited to have five of our players take part in the BioSteel All-American Game," said Sheahan. "It is another opportunity for them to represent the Chicago Steel on a big stage and great exposure for each individual."
This season, Farrell (Harvard University) shares the league lead with 30 points (9G, 21A) in 24 games played while Brisson (University of Michigan) paces USHL rookies with 22 points (9G, 13A) in 20 contests.
Colangelo (Northeastern University) and Fontaine (Northeastern University) share the eighth-most goals in the USHL this season, both with 12 markers this year.
Reid has posted a goal and six helpers during his second season as a member of the Steel.
Steel General Manager Ryan Hardy expressed his excitement for all five players.
"We are thrilled that these five players have been invited to participate in the BioSteel All-American Prospects Game as representatives of the Chicago Steel," said Hardy. "We wish them the best and anticipate continued exposure for them and the rest of our NHL Draft prospects in the second half of the season."
