Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SPRINGDALE - Osvaldo Duarte's two-out bases-loaded single in the eighth inning Wednesday night fueled a 3-1 victory for the Hooks in the series opener at Arvest Ballpark.

J.B. Bukauskas earned the win after blanking the Naturals over the final five innings, striking out seven against one hit and one walk. A lead-off walk by Khalil Lee in the ninth snapped a stretch of 10 consecutive outs for Bukauskas, who owns a 1.06 ERA in his last three outings.

Lee was quickly erased on a double play and Taylor Featherston popped out to end the game, leaving the Naturals with only two hits on the night.

Gerson Garabito no-hit the Hooks over 5 2/3 innings. Bryan De La Cruz was the first to record a knock, searing a single into right-center. Abraham Toro followed with the double and Seth Beer worked a walk, loading the bases. Lorenzo Quintana then lined out to end the rally as NW Arkansas maintained a 1-0 lead.

Corpus Christi squandered a no-out, bases-loaded chance in the seventh before finally breaking through in the eighth. Beer was struck by an Emilio Ogando pitch and Quintana doubled, prompting an intentional walk of Colton Shaver. Duarte capitalized by lining the first pitch he saw into center field, plating a pair.

Beer made it 3-1 Hooks in the eighth with his 80th RBI of the season.

Carlos Sanabria retired five of the six men he faced, striking out four. Hooks starter Tyler Ivey, appearing in Double-A for the first time since mid-May, fanned five over 2 1/3 innings.

Bryan Abreu takes the ball Thursday night as the Hooks aim for a series win. The Naturals counter with Connor Greene. First pitch 7:05.
