Cats Pound Wings; Salvage Split

FORT WORTH, Texas- The Fort Worth Cats (34-22) used a four run first inning to slug past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (28-26) 8-1 Thursday night at LaGrave field.

Aljay Davis led off the first inning with an infield single, Davis later scored on an RBI single from Mark Sobolewski giving the Cats a 1-0 lead.

Chris Ellison drew a four pitch walk, opening the door for Daniel Meeley who scored Ellison from third on a sacrifice fly making it 2-0 Fort Worth.

The inning got even longer, with Sobolewski on first David Bergen belted a two-run home run extending the lead 4-0.

The Wings got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Johnny Bowden scoring Thomas Shull from third cutting the lead to 4-1.

David led off the second inning with another single and later coming around to score on a Sobolewski RBI double making it 5-1 Cats.

Davis scored his third run of the game on an RBI single from Bergen making it 6-1 Cats. The Cats added two more runs as Aaron Wilkerson (8-1) silenced the Wings offense to four hits and just one run while striking out seven though seven innings of work.

RGV's Brett Kennedy (5-2) suffered the loss going just five and two thirds allowing 11 hits on a season high seven runs.

Fort Worth out hit RGV 14 to 5, with Davis scoring a season high four runs on three hits, Sobolewski finished 4-for-5 on the night falling a home run shy of the cycle.

The Wings head home for an eight game home stand starting Sunday versus the Edinburg RoadRunners, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
