
Edinburg Sweeps Colts in Doubleheader

San Angelo, Texas --- The Edinburg Roadrunners swept the San Angelo Colts in a doubleheader Friday night at Foster Field. Edinburg won game one, 6-4, and then took game two, 6-2.
San Angelo got out to an early 4-0 lead in game one, but was held scoreless from the third inning on. Meanwhile, Edinburg scored in every inning from the third through the sixth.
Right fielder Braden Embry, shortstop Jordan Marks, and third baseman Steve Rinaudo all recorded RBI hits in the second inning. Marks's hit was a two-RBI double.
The Roadrunners began their comeback with a two-run homer by catcher Dan Coury in the third inning. It was Coury's fifth home run of the year.
Edinburg tied the game in the fifth, and then took the lead in the sixth when San Angelo committed back-to-back errors. The Colts committed three errors, and they led to three unearned runs.
San Angelo starter Demetrius Banks (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year. He gave up six runs, three earned, on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Roadrunners' reliever Leo Madrid (3-2) earned the win, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Closer Damian Seguen pitched a scoreless seventh for his sixth save of the year.
In game two, a five-run fifth inning to propel the Roadrunners to victory. With the game tied at one, Edinburg pulled away with five runs on seven hits. Centerfielder Tim Maitland, third baseman Travis Clark, first baseman Trevor Whyte and designated hitter Ryde Rodriguez all drove in runs.
The big inning also knocked Colts' starter Corey Frerichs out of the game. Frerichs (4-5) gave up six runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings for the loss.
San Angelo scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was too little, too late. Edinburg starter Maximino De La Cruz (4-1) allowed two runs on four hits through five innings for the win.
The wins improve Edinburg to 26-28, while the losses drop San Angelo to .500 at 26-26. This series concludes Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
It will be Pepsi-Cola Giveaway Night. The first 300 fans through the front gates receive a giveaway, courtesy of Pepsi-Cola. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Colts are in the midst of a 12-game home stand. The home stand runs from Tuesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 20, and in that time the Colts face the Fort Worth Cats, Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, and Edinburg Roadrunners. After this home stand, the Colts begin an eight-game road trip against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the Edinburg Roadrunners. The Colts then return home for their last 12-game home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, July 30.
