Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats dropped both ends of a doubleheader against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at home on Friday at LaGrave Field.
In both games, the WhiteWings (27-24) starting pitching limited the Cats (33-22), tallying only six hits in the two games.
Game one
Rio Grande Valley starter Trent Evins, who was making his first start with the team, went the distance in the seven-inning contest, allowing two runs on only fours hits.
The Cats scored first, but failed to get any production past the second inning.
The WhiteWings tied the game in the fourth and then blew the game wide open in the sixth on a three-run home run off the bat of Paul Montalbano.
Cats' shortstop Ryan Miller finished the game with both of the Cats' runs batted in in the 5-2 loss.
Game two
The story was similar for the nightcap as the Cats fell 5-1.
WhiteWings starter Brett Miller - also making his team debut - held the Cats to one run on two hits in a complete game.
The Cats were also mired by sloppy defensive play, tallying four errors by four individual players.
Fort Worth blew their lead in the fourth inning as the WhiteWings scored three times on two hits and two Cats' errors.
Though he did not allow an earned run in the game, Stephen Nikonchik was stuck with the loss for the Cats, falling to 2-6 on the season.
Montalbano, who was a reliever for the WhiteWings prior to Friday, finished the night with five RBI on four hits in the two games.
The Cats wrap up the series on Saturday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
