Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - The Sioux City Explorers dominated the Gary SouthShore RailCats from first pitch to last Friday at the U.S. Steel Yard, handing the 'Cats their fourth straight loss.

After mustering only two runs on eight hits, the RailCats (27-32) fall five games under .500 - the furthest the team has been under .500 this season.

The Explorers (42-17), 25 games over .500, touched up Andy Roberts for four runs in the first two innings, though only two runs were earned.

Roberts, who notched his second-straight quality start and his fourth of the season, took his sixth loss of the year.

X's starter Eric Wordekemper came into the game with a 5.89 ERA, and had struggled mightily in his previous two outings, but went six innings Friday, allowing only one earned run on five hits and three walks.

Sioux City right fielder Michael Lang drove in two runs on the night, his eighth and ninth against the RailCats this season.

J.D. Pulfer collected the lone 'Cats RBI of the evening with his second-inning double, driving in Ryan Brockett to temporarily cut into X's lead.

The 'Cats and Explorers square off again 6:10 Saturday at the U.S. Steel Yard in a matchup between righties Travis McGee (1-0) and Jeff Marquez (6-2).
