AMARILLO, Texas - The Canaries bats went silent until the later part of the ballgame after they scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Sioux Falls (24-36) ultimately didn't pick up enough runs as they dropped game two to the Amarillo Thunderheads (28-32) by a final of 9-8 at Potter County Memorial Stadium.

Amarillo answered first in the bottom of the first inning when Stefan Gartrell roped an RBI double, allowing Logan Vick and Jordan Guida to score. Amarillo plated another run in the bottom of the fourth after Logan Vick hit a sacrifice fly that scored Dexter Kjerstad who reached earlier on a leadoff triple. The Thunderheads weren't finished when Juan Martinez hit a solo homerun to lead thins off in the bottom of fifth. Stefan Gartrell later scored the final run on a wild pitch from Al Yevoli.

Sioux Falls came storming back in the top of the sixth after Brian Humphries hit a towering two-run homerun over the left field wall. Chris Grayson had similar ideas in the top of the seventh when he also hit a two-run homerun to put the Birds' down by a run. Amarillo didn't go down without a fight after Kjerstad singled in two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The final run of the inning came from Guida after he scored on another wild pitch.

The Canaries matched the run total from Amarillo as they plated three more runs in the top of the eighth. Tyler Shover singled in the first run, followed by another single from Grayson that ultimately scored two Sioux Falls batters.

Brian Humphries took the game into his own hands in the top of the ninth, hitting another homerun to tie the game at eight apiece. The ballgame didn't end as planned for the Canaries when Rene Leveret scored on a throwing error by Jason Repko.

In all, Sioux Falls picked up eight runs on thirteen hits. Brian Humphries paced the Canaries offense going 2-for-5 with two homeruns and three RBI.

The Canaries will go for win two on Saturday evening as they send Miguel Pena (5-5, 2.48 ERA) to the mound in search of his team leading sixth win in a Sioux Falls uniform. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM for game three of a four game series.
