Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
RAMAPO, NY - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks fell behind early and could not get over the hump in a 9-5 loss to the Rockland Boulders at Provident Bank Park on Friday night.
The Boulders got to RedHawks starter Ty Kelley right away in the first. They plated three runs, aided by a pair of Taylor Oldham errors, making it 3-0 after the first inning.
The Boulders would score again two innings later in the third. Stephen Cardullo whacked a leadoff double to start, followed by a Joe Maloney RBI double making it 4-0. Maloney would be plated three batters later on a Steve Nyisztor double and the Boulder's took a 5-0 lead heading into the top half of the fourth.
Fargo-Moorhead answered in the top half of the fourth on one swing. Ryan Pineda took an 0-1 fastball to opposite field to right for his first homer this season as a RedHawk making it 5-1.
Rockland made a rally difficult by tacking on one at a time. The Boulders would go on to plate one run consecutively in four consecutive innings, making it 9-1 heading to the top of the eighth.
In the top of the eighth the RedHawks made a push. Tyler Peterson led off with a single followed by a Zach Penprase walk. Chad Mozingo, who is batting .359 with runners in scoring position this season, delivered a base knock scoring Peterson. Joe Bonfe followed with a grounder to third that allowed Penprase to scoot home making it 9-3. That brought up Joe Dunigan. Dunigan, last season's Can-Am League Home Run King, belted a two run shot in a familiar park cutting the deficit to 9-5.
Luis Sanz came on for Rockland in the ninth and retired the 'Hawks in order ending the ball game and evening the series. Ty Kelley (3-6) took the loss while Stephen (6-5) earned the win for Rockland. Tomorrow night's rubber match game starts at 5:30 with Fargo-Moorhead sending Brandon Mann to the mound. Pre-game starts at 5:10 on 740 AM The Fan with Jack Michaels.
