'Cats Drop Series Opener against Jackals, 7-6

Tri-City ValleyCats infielder Brantley Bell slides home against the New Jersey Jackals

TROY, NY - Tuesday evening featured the New Jersey Jackals visitin Joseph L. Bruno Stadium for the first time this season, as the ValleyCats begin their second half of the six game homestand.
The ValleyCats would send Aneudy Acosta out to start the game, and would retire the first two batters of the inning. Following a walk to Dalton Combs and a single from Alfredo Marte, it would be Justin Wylie who would plate Combs for the first run of the game.
The ValleyCats offense would be held in check by starter Joan Gregorio through the first three innings, only giving up a single to Carson McCusker in the bottom of the third.
The offense for Tri-City would break out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pavin Parks would walk after Brantley Bell was retired to lead off the inning. ValleyCats first baseman would follow Parks with a single, and Juan Silverio would also walk to load the bases for newest 'Cat Jakob Goldfarb. The left fielder would launch a sacrifice fly to deep center field bringing Pavin Parks around to score. Designated hitter Denis Phipps would hit a ground ball to second base that Jacob Wylie wouldn't handle, bringing Santana in from third with Phipps reaching on the error. ValleyCat catcher Danny Angulo would launch a single into right field to complete the three-run inning.
The Jackals would not waste any time reclaiming the lead, plating three runs of their own in the fifth on RBI doubles from Dalton Combs and Josh Rehwaldt.
The fifth and sixth did not feature much offensively for Tri-City. But in the seventh, the ValleyCats would come clawing back in the seventh to tie the game. Pavin Parks would come up clutch again, ripping a two-run single into center field to bring Brantley Bell and Carson McCusker around to score, tying the game at five.
Both bullpens would put up zeros in the eighth and ninth innings, setting up the first meeting between the ValleyCats and Jackals to head to extras.
George Bell Jr would be the International Tie Breaker runner at second to start the tenth inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Todd Isaacs, the Frontier League's all-time leader in hits, Santiago Chirino would plate the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly of his own. The Jackals first baseman, Dalton Combs would come up to hit with two away, and on a two-strike pitch would add to the Jackals lead, with a solo shot to deep right field.
Jesus Lujano would be sent out to second base for the 'Cats in the bottom of the tenth. Following back to back strikeouts by Bell and Parks, Juan Santana would single to plate Lujano. Juan Silverio would ultimately pop out to Combs at first to end the game.
