Sacramento River Cats News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The River Cats lost both games of a doubleheader against the Las Vegas 51s by scores of 8-3 and 10-4, respectively, on Monday night at Cashman Field.
In game one, the 51s did most of their damage in the bottom of the second inning, plating five runs against River Cats starter Darren Byrd. First baseman Anthony Aliotti clubbed his first career Triple-A home run in the top of the second inning, and Daric Barton drove in two runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Sacramento lost by a score of 8-3.
Later in the evening, Sonny Gray took the mound for the River Cats in game two of the twin bill. Sacramento got the scoring started early, plating two in the top of the first. The Las Vegas scoring barrage continued, however, as the 51s pushed seven runs across the plate through the game's first four innings, giving it all the offense it would need to ultimately defeat the River Cats, 10-4.
Byrd suffered the loss in game one, while Matt Fox tallied his fifth win for Las Vegas. Hiro Nakajima and Aliotti each collected two hits, while Barton went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Matt den Dekker went 2-for-3 with two runs, three RBI and a triple for Las Vegas.
Gray was handed his seventh loss in game two, yielding six runs-seven earned-in 4.2 innings of work. Greg Burke earned his second win, while Jamie Hoffmann went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for the 51s. Ryan Ortiz finished 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI and his first Triple-A home run, accounting for half of Sacramento's offense in the contest.
The two losses move the River Cats four games back of Las Vegas for first place in the Pacific Southern division with 34 games left to play in the 2013 season. The River Cats and 51s will not play eachother again this season.
The River Cats return home Tuesday for an eight-game homestand against the Albuquerque Isotopes and Round Rock Express that will feature two fireworks shows, a jersey auction, the players' wives' food drive and a Nick Swisher bobblehead giveaway. Game one will pit River Cats righty Bruce Billings (10-4, 4.37 ERA) against Isotopes right-hander Matt Magill (3-0, 2.76 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field.
