Tucson Padres News Release
Michael Wacha pitched six shutout innings leading the Memphis Redbirds to a 3-0 win over the Tucson Padres Tuesday at AutoZone Park. The Padres have lost six of their last nine road games and have now been shutout 11 times this season.
Brock Peterson's solo home run over the left field wall broke a scoreless tie to lead off the bottom of sixth for Memphis. Peterson leads the Pacific Coast League in home runs with 23. The Redbirds loaded the bases later that inning, but Anthony Bass induced a strikeout and fly out to center to end the threat.
The Padres had their first runner to reach third base in the eighth when Jesus Merchan went from first to third on Jaff Decker's single to right. Reliever Sam Freeman retired Daniel Robertson for the final out of the inning to keep the Padres scoreless. Memphis added two runs in the bottom of the eighth on Greg Garcia's RBI double and Travis Tartamella's RBI single. Tucson loaded the bases in the ninth, but Freeman once again got of the jam, this time with a game-ending strikeout.
Wacha earned his fifth win, allowing two hits without walking a batter. Wacha struck out seven Padres. Freeman's save was his second with Memphis. Bass lost his fifth game for the Padres after surrendering eight hits in six innings, including Peterson's home run.
