Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: The RedHawks continue their 12-game homestand and open a four-game series against Reno at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks seek a fifth-straight win as they play Reno for the first time this season.

Last Game: George Springer scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 RedHawks win over the Iowa Cubs Monday, completing a four-game sweep. Springer tripled on a line drive to center field to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning. With Brandon Laird batting, Henry Rodriguez's 1-2 pitch got behind Iowa catcher J.C. Boscan and Springer scored standing up for the walk-off win in the season finale between the teams. The RedHawks scored on a squeeze bunt by Cody Clark in the second, but Iowa tied the game in the fourth on a solo home run by Ty Wright. OKC regained the lead in the bottom of the frame when Ruben Sosa's single scored Che-Hsuan Lin. It stayed 2-1 until the I-Cubs scored two runs in the eighth inning to go ahead, 3-2, but another squeeze bunt by Sosa brought Lin home to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. RedHawks starting pitcher Brad Peacock tied a season high with seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits. Jason Stoffel (5-1) got the win after throwing 1.1 scoreless innings.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Jake Buchanan aims to guide the RedHawks to a fifth-straight win...In his most recent start Thursday at Omaha, Buchanan turned in a strong performance, allowing one run over seven innings in a no decision. He allowed eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts and also held Omaha 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. After giving up a solo homer in the first inning, he held Omaha scoreless over his final six frames...Since the All-Star Break Buchanan has made two starts and allowed just one run over 13 innings...Combined with his time in Double-A, he has allowed 15 walks all season in 113.0 IP, averaging 1.19 per nine innings with a 4.8 strikeout-to-walk ratio...His overall 2.39 ERA is second-best among Astros minor leaguers and his 113.0 IP ranks third...Before his promotion, Buchanan went 7-2 with one save and had a Texas League-leading 2.09 ERA in 18 games (13 starts) for Corpus Christi. He ranked first in the league in WHIP (0.93), fourth in average (.226) and fifth in innings (82.0)...Tonight is his first career start against Reno...It is the second time in three starts he'll oppose a pitcher on Major League rehab (C. Carpenter, Memphis; July 20).

Against the Aces: 2013: 0-0 2012: 2-2 All-time: 9-7 In OKC: 6-2

Tonight is the first meeting of the season between the clubs and first meeting since May 20, 2012 in Reno (W, 10-9)...The teams split their four-game series, 2-2, in 2012 at Aces Ballpark. It was an offensively-charged series with both teams scoring 36 runs apiece and each reaching 10 runs in a game twice. The RedHawks hit an astounding 12 home runs over the four games (Reno hit six)...Oklahoma City has won eight of the last 12 games between the teams...This is the Aces' first visit to Bricktown since Aug. 16-19, 2011. The RedHawks took three of four, and three games were decided by one or two runs.

Zeid Reaches Zenith: Late yesterday afternoon, the Houston Astros announced they purchased the contract of RedHawks reliever Josh Zeid, who will join the Astros today in Baltimore. Over a team-leading 43 appearances, Zeid was 4-1 with a 3.50 ERA and tied for the team lead with 13 saves. In a corresponding move, the Astros optioned pitcher Hector Ambriz to Oklahoma City.

High-Water Mark: The RedHawks have matched their best record of the season, reaching 10 games above .500 for the second time overall and for the first time since they were 22-12 on May 11. They are looking for their first five-game winning streak since reeling off seven straight, April 26-May 2.

Running with the Pac: Tonight begins a stretch of 16 consecutive games against Pacific Conference opponents. Thus far the RedHawks are 9-7 against teams from the other side of the league, including a 5-3 mark at home.

Mound Magic: Since the All-Star Break, the RedHawks have a 2.38 ERA (30 ER/113.1 IP). The starters have combined for a 2.18 ERA (19 ER/78.1 IP) and allowed more than two earned runs in a game just twice.

30 Rock: George Springer stole two more bases yesterday, bringing his season total up to 35 (12 with OKC). Springer has also hit 29 home runs this season overall, tying him for the Minor League lead with Ryan Rua of Low-A Hickory. He is one home run away from becoming the first player in the Minors to go 30/30 since Grant Desme in 2009. Springer collected a double and a triple Monday to finish the series against Iowa 7-for-14 with five RBI and seven runs scored.

Jimmy Jamming: Jimmy Paredes is on an eight-game hitting streak and has hit safely in each of his last nine games (*first game on July 23 not part of streak since stats revert to June 8). He is hitting .361 (13-for-36) with two home runs, five runs scored and seven RBI during the nine-game stretch.

As the Crowe Flies: Astros outfielder Trevor Crowe is 1-for-10 over the first three games of his rehab assignment. Crowe has been sidelined since spraining the AC joint in his right shoulder after he ran into a wall while attempting to make a catch on June 20. He spent the first month of the season with the RedHawks, hitting .307/2/14. The RedHawks are 11-2 when Crowe leads off this season.

Bounty of Bunts: The RedHawks had five sacrifice bunts last night, including two squeeze bunts that scored runs. Cody Clark had three of the sac bunts, falling one shy of tying the all-time PCL record. (Ray Rowher, Sacramento; vs. Hollywood, 8/20/1927)

A Healthy Inheritance: Ty Wright's RBI single off Jason Stoffel in the eighth inning last night snapped a streak of 20 straight inherited runners stranded by the RedHawks bullpen. Only five of the last 32 inherited runners have scored against OKC.
