The Greenville Bombers opened their four game series at home tonight by losing a closely contested battle to the Columbus Catfish, 3 -2, at Greenville Municipal stadium.
The Bombers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second ining on a solo home run by Chris Turner, his fifth of the season.
Columbus would trump the Bombers' efforts by taking a 2-1 lead in the fifth ining on a single by Brandon Carter, scoring both Ryan Carter and Gabriel Gutierrez.
The Bombers tied the game at two-apiece in the eighth on a double by Jeff Natale and subsequent single by Andrew Pickney.
Columbus, however, broke the tie in top of the ninth, when a sacrifice fly by Dominique Laurin plated Ryan Carter, which would eventually stand as the winning run to a 3-2 finish.
Game two in the series will be Sunday night at 6:05. Gary Galvez will be the starting pitcher for the Bombers, while Brandon Weeden will take the mound for Columbus.
On Sunday, the team will offer it's "Kids Eat Free, Kids Run the Bases" promotion for the gam. All children 12 & under will receive a voucher for a hot dog, chips and drink with the purchase of a paid admission.
