Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (33-33) completed their home schedule with a doubleheader split against the Rome Braves (27-38) Thursday at Golden Park. Rome earned an 8-3 win in game one, but Columbus turned around and dominated game two 12-1.

In game one the Braves took a 5-0 lead before the Catfish got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. 1B David Sutherland scored on a ground out by CF Bridger Hunt. Then SS Ivan DeJesus plated LF Adam Godwin with a single for a 5-2 score.

Rome added one run in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh for an 8-2 lead. Columbus used three straight singles and a walk to load the bases and score one run in the bottom of the seventh. However, LHP Kevin Gunderson recorded a strikeout and a double play to end the game and earn his third save.

Game two was a different story, as the ‘Fish jumped on top early and did not let up. 3B Eduardo Perez drove in two runs with a double in the first inning. Columbus used four hits and three walks to extend the lead to 6-0 in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run Godwin triple.

A solo home run by RF Jamie Romak in the top of the fourth did not phase the ‘Fish. Godwin drove in Perez with a single for a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning. In the fifth 2B Travis Denker drove in DeJesus with a single. LF Lucas May then reached base on a fielding error by 3B Jose Santos that scored Denker. Perez tacked on two more when he scorched his fourth home run of the season out to right field. They added their 12th and final run on an RBI double by Hunt in the sixth inning.

RHP Mario Alvarez (7-10) allowed just one run in six innings to get the win. He gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out six.

Next the Catfish head on the road for a final four-game series against the Charleston RiverDogs. Game one will begin Friday at 7:05pm when RHP James McDonald (4-10, 4.25) faces RHP Erick Abreu (6-1, 1.91). For tickets or more information call (706) 571-8866 or visit www.ColumbusCatfish.com.
