(Greensboro, NC) - The South Atlantic League announced on Wednesday the recipients of the 2006 Outstanding Achievement Awards, presenting the Greensboro Grasshoppers with three of the six honors.

For the second straight season, the Grasshoppers are the recipients of the league's Club Merit Award, this year sharing the honor with the Charleston RiverDogs. The award recognizes outstanding overall operation by an organization.

In addition, Donald Moore was named General Manager of the Year, an accolade also received by the Hoppers last season. Under Moore's direction, the Hoppers became the tenth out of 28 new stadiums teams (built between 2000 and 2004) to increase their attendance during year two.

"It is extremely humbling to be selected for an award like this by your peers," said Grasshoppers President Donald Moore. "We are proud of the accomplishments, but working to make next season even better."

Three-year veteran of Greensboro Baseball, bat-boy Steven Alston was chosen Bat Person of the Year.

Additional award recipients include the Best Playing Field (Lakewood), Groundskeeper of the Year (Greg Elliot, Lake County) and Trainer of the Year (Tomas Vera, Kannapolis).

Sixty-four ballots, four per club, are used to collect votes for the league awards.

A formal presentation of the awards will be made at the Seventh Annual South Atlantic League Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 26 at the Greensboro Marriott Downtown in Greensboro, North Carolina.
