Catcher Is the Winning Pitcher; Frisco Wins in 11
Published on July 2, 2021 under Texas League (TL)
Midland RockHounds News Release
Jordan Procyshen is a catcher. He is also Frisco's designated "emergency pitcher." Oh, by the way, he is now 2-1 with a (very respectable) 4.26 ERA as a pitcher after earning his second win of the season Friday night at Riders Field.
Frisco defeated the RockHounds, 5-4, in 11 innings, on Melvin Novoa's walk-off double after Procyshen (see Kibbles & Bits," below) retired the side, 1-2-3, in the top half of the inning.
The RoughRiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on an RBI single from Trace Loehr in the second inning and a two-run single off the bat of Dio Arias in the third.
The RockHounds tied the game on one swing of the bat ... Jeremy Eierman's three-run home run in the top of the fourth. It was Eierman's second home run in as many games and his team-leading 10th of the season.
JJ Schwarz gave the RockHounds the lead with an RBI single in the top of the 10th. Chase Calabuig then doubled to center field, putting runners at second and third, but the 'Hounds could not cash in any further, a missed opportunity that proved to be critical.
Arias drove in his third run of the game (on a sacrifice fly) to even the score at 4-4 in the last of the 10th and, after Procyshen's 1-2-3 inning, the RoughRiders walked off on Novoa's double.
Frisco leads the (six-game) series, 3-1, with the four games decided by a combined total of six runs. The Riders, who own the Double-A Central's best record (35-17), are 9-7 against the RockHounds and 26-10 against the rest of the league.
Kibbles & Bits
If you think Friday's win for Jordan Procyshen was a fluke, think again. He tossed TWO scoreless innings at Corpus Christi on June 18 ... and did not allow a hit (one walk) ... in earning his previous win.
Procyshen (pronounced as in "procession"), who does not throw harder than roughly 60 mph, is a former Boston Red Sox draft selection (14th round, 2014, out of Northern Kentucky University) and played for the Red Sox, Dodgers and Cubs organizations before signing with the Texas Rangers (Frisco's MLB parent club) as a minor league free agent in April.
