San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Some terrific pitching performances and clutch hitting propelled the Missions to a 3-1 victory Friday night.
It was a pitcher's duel at The Wolff through the first two and a half innings of play with both teams being held scoreless until the third inning.
Michael Curry was the lead-off hitter for the Missions in the third inning. He connected on a solo home run to give the Missions a 1-0 lead. This was his first home run since August 19th, 2019.
San Antonio added an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning. Jose Azocar was hit by pitch to start the inning. He stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. He scored on an RBI infield single from Jack Suwinski to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
Missions starter Adrian Martinez provided the biggest headline throughout Friday night's game. Martine carried a no-hitter through six innings of work. He walked the first batter of the game and retired the next 17 batters. The right-hander finished the night with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Mason Fox was the new pitcher for the top of the seventh inning. On the first pitch of the inning, Norel Gonzalez broke up the no-hitter and shutout by hitting a solo home run.
Parker Mushinski was the starting pitcher for Hooks. Aside from the home run, Mushinski put together a solid outing. He pitched 3.2 innings with three hits, an earned run, and seven strikeouts.
With a 2-1 lead, the Missions added a third run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild play. After walks to Suwinski and Rosario, Juan Fernandez laid down a bunt. On the play, Suwinski was thrown out a third base. A throwing error from Joe Perez, trying to get Fernandez at first, allowed Rosario to score. In the same play, Fernandez tried to advance to third base but was thrown out.
