Castellani Pitches the Nuts to a 5-3 Win

Modesto, CA. - Ryan Castellani worked into the eighth to help the Modesto Nuts to a 5-3 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.

Castellani (W, 3-6) allowed a pair of two-out hits in the first inning. The 66ers (21-45) added to their lead in the fourth on Roberto Baldoquin's RBI groundout. Zach Welz ripped a solo home run to build a two-run lead in the fifth. Castellani did not allow another run after that. The righty worked 7.1 allowing eight hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three.

The Nuts (25-42) plated four unanswered runs starting in the bottom of the fifth. Max White walked to leadoff the fifth and scored on a wild pitch. Jason Hoppe (L, 0-1) entered the game in the sixth and surrendered a RBI single to Drew Weeks and a RBI double to Collin Ferguson. Omar Carrizales cranked a triple in the seventh and scored an insurance run on a wild pitch.

Adam Ottavino (S, 1/1), on MLB rehab, struck out the side in the ninth to close out the Nuts' victory.
