Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO- The Kalamazoo Wings were scoring goals almost as fast as fans were eating 10-cent hot dogs, as the K-Wings defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators 4-1 Wednesday night on Dime Dog night.

Striking quickly, the Gladiators found the back of the net just 1:27 into the first stanza when Sean Berkstresser scored his fourth goal of the season.

Showing no ill-effects from the early setback, the K-Wings pulled even midway in the period with an equalizer from Gergo Nagy (2nd). Battling in front the net, Nagy was able to jam in his own rebound 10:39 into the period.

Eight minutes later, Matt Caria showed some patients by pumping in his fourth goal of the year to give the K-Wings a 2-1 advantage.

Starting the second period with an early power play, the K-Wings increased their lead to two goals when Lane Scheidl (6th) tipped a blue-line one-timer from Sacha Guimond.

Finding the puck in the high-slot late in the third, Nathan Longpre added the insurance marker with his sixth goal of the season. Assisting on the goal was Caria, who capped off a three-point night (1 goal, 2 assists).

Joel Martin improved his record to 7-6-1-1with a 32-save performance.

The K-Wings will return home on Friday, December 12th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Toledo Walleye on a 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun!, featuring $3 beer, $2 Pepsi products and $1 hot dogs. Friday night will also be the K-Wings 15th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by Little Caesars. Everyone coming to the game is encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to participate in the Teddy Bear Toss. When the K-Wings score their first goal, fans will throw their stuffed animals onto the ice. The stuffed animals collected will go to the Salvation Army and to the K-Wings annual visit to the Bronson Children's Hospital.

This year the K-Wings will be delivering the stuffed animals to the Bronson Children's Hospital on Wednesday, December 17th at 2 p.m.

To cap off the thrilling entertainment for Friday night, the K-Wings will also celebrate Sam Ftorek, who will be playing in his 1,000th career game. Besides playing his 1,000th career game, Ftorek will also tie Cam Brown for most games (789) played in ECHL history.
