Quad City Mallards News Release
ALLEN, Texas (December 10, 2014) - Jack Combs matched an ECHL season high by scoring four goals- three of them in the third period- as the host Allen Americans (15-4-1) defeated the Quad City Mallards (8-8-5) 5-2 Wednesday night.
Combs scored his second of the evening and what proved to be the game winner at 2:49 of the third period. He charged into the goalmouth and steered in a centering pass from Chad Costello- who assisted on each of Combs's goals- to stretch what had been a 2-1 Allen lead to a pair of goals. The Mallards would claw back within one while up 5-on-3 at 9:26 of the third. Kevin Baker scored his second goal of the night from the left wing circle to cut the gap to 3-2. It was the Americans who were on a two man advantage when Combs completed his hat trick and reestablished the Allen two goal lead in a goalmouth scramble at the 13:56 mark. Combs scored on a breakaway to put the Mallards away with just under two and a half minutes remaining.
The Americans overturned a 1-0 deficit with a pair of second period goals. Combs tied the score at one by burying Costello's centering feed at 9:03 of the second. At 14:26, Justin Baker's point blank backhander broke the deadlock.
The Mallards were on the power play when Kevin Baker jammed the puck in from the doorstep to open the scoring at 10:42 of the first period, but Combs would take over in the final two periods.
The Mallards return to action Friday night on the road against the Wichita Thunder. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night, December 17 at 7:05 p.m. against the Brampton Beast. Fans can get four tickets to Mallards Wednesday night home games for just $20. After each Wednesday night home tilt, fans can join the Mallards at T.G.I. Friday's in Moline for a postgame party.
