Carey Recalled to Portland

DULUTH, Ga. - The Arizona Coyotes, NHL affiliate of the Gwinnett Gladiators, announced that rookie forward Greg Carey has been reassigned from the Gladiators to the Portland Pirates of the AHL on Thursday.

Carey, 24, has 17 points on seven goals and ten assists for the Gladiators through 14 games played this season. The rookie was on his second assignment to the Gladiators since January 8th. In those nine games this month, Carey totaled five goals and four assists, second most on the team behind Casey Pierro-Zabotel (16 pts, 8g, 8a).

On Friday, Carey achieved his second hat trick of the season in Gwinnett's 7-5 win over the Florida Everblades. Carey had previously notched a hat trick on November 9th, a four goal game that also included a natural hat trick.

The Hamilton, Ontario native has played in 23 games for the Pirates so far this season, and has tallied a goal and four assists. He made his professional debut in early 2014 with the Pirates, playing in13 games after wrapping up his four-year career at St. Lawrence University. While with the Saints, Carey averaged over a point per game - 185 points (84g, 101a) in 152 games played. In his junior and senior season, he was also a top-three finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the best player in college hockey.

Carey will join the Pirates ahead of their game tomorrow against the Manchester Monarchs, their first game in the second half of the season. The Gladiators will also play tomorrow night, against the Evansville IceMen at the Ford Center at 8:15 p.m. EST.

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league, and are affiliated with the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth - where parking is always free.
