Cards Take Down Travs, 8-1

Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals hit a trio of two-run homers and defeated the Arkansas Travelers 8-1 on Sunday night. Big leaguer Dakota Hudson, one year removed from Tommy John surgery, making a rehab start held the Travs to one run and two hits over five innings to get the win. Travs starter Joseph Hernandez, a 21-year old called up today from the Arizona League took the loss after giving up six runs in four innings.

Moments That Mattered

* Jack Larsen tripled opening the fourth inning and promptly scored on a double by Julio Rodriguez to bring the Travs within one but Hudson retired the next three hitters to leave the tying run on base.

* Springfield answered the Travs run in a bottom half of the inning with a pair of two-run home runs from Leandro Cedeno and Matt Koperniak.

* 1B Jack Larsen: 2-4, run, 3B

* LHP Nate Fisher: 2 IP, BB, 2 K

News and Notes

* Larsen's two hits extended his hitting streak to eight.

* With Frisco's loss to San Antonio, the Travs remain tied with the RoughRiders for the second and final playoff spot in the league. The two clubs are three games back of Wichita. Northwest Arkansas and Tulsa remain alive as well sitting 1.5 and 2 games back of the two second place clubs.

After an off day Monday, the Travs open the final series of the season on Tuesday at league leading Wichita. Right-hander Tyler Herb (3-6, 4.26) gets the starts against righty Simeon Woods Richardson (0-1, 18.00) for the Wind Surge. First pitch is at 7:05 and the game will be broadcast on AM 920 the Sports Animal, the First Pitch App and milb.tv.
