Riders Drop Home Finale to San Antonio

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders fell to the San Antonio Missions 3-1 in their final home game of the regular season on Sunday from Riders Field.

In the top of the second, the Missions (55-59) started the scoring with Agustin Ruiz lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to make it 1-0.

Frisco (61-51) struck back in the bottom of the second when J.P. Martinez singled home Blaine Crim to tie the game at 1-1.

The Missions then vaulted themselves in front in the fifth on a Ruiz solo home run and extended their lead when Kelvin Melean smashed a solo blast himself, pushing San Antonio to a 3-1 advantage.

Zak Kent (0-4) took the loss, but threw well, tossing 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts, ceding just three runs on four hits.

Pedro Avila (1-3) earned his first victory of the year for San Antonio, throwing 5.0 frames with nine strikeouts and Jose Quezada picked up his league-best 18th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

After a day off on Monday, the RoughRiders end their season with a seven-game series in six days in Amarillo against the Sod Poodles. Game one is at 7:05 p.m. from HODGETOWN on Tuesday, September 14th. Neither team has announced a starter.
