The Springfield Cardinals split their first double-header in franchise history on Sunday afternoon. The Cards earned their first complete game shutout of the year, as Randy Leek pitched seven shutout innings in a 2-0 win over the Frisco RoughRiders in game one of the double-header.
Juan Diaz homered in the top of the 11th inning of game two, giving the Cards a 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the inning however, the Riders scored two runs to salvage a split of the four-game series, winning game two 7-6. The Cards open up an 11-game home stand tonight against the Midland RockHounds. Game time is 7:10pm and plenty of great seats are available by calling the Cardinals at (417) 863-2143.
This week is a huge promotional week, as Wednesday night is Kum & Go Travel Mug Giveaway. Friday night is another AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks. On Friday and Saturday, fans are encouraged to bring a canned item or cash donation to the game in support of National Hunger Awareness Week. In addition, American Family Insurance will be giving away 2,500 Koozies for both games on Friday and Saturday.
