Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

The Palm Beach Cardinals rode another outstanding Trent Baker outing as well as some late-game offense to a 5-1 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Baker allowed only an unearned run in the sixth inning, on his way to five and 2/3 innings pitched and eight strikeouts. The right-handed arm from Austin, Tex. took the win Tuesday, his third of 2022. Palm Beach opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, on a Jeremy Rivas RBI groundout to score Darlin Moquete. The Cardinals tacked another run in the third, when Brady Whalen singled in Osvaldo Tovalin. Both of the early runs came with two outs.

The Hammerheads ate into the margin in the sixth, but Palm Beach answered to gain breathing room an inning later. Whalen and Tovalin each poked singles in the frame to give the home side a 4-1 lead over their in-stadium rivals. And in the eighth, Jhon Torres homered in his Palm Beach home season debut, and the Cardinals would take the four-run lead through the last out.

Southpaw reliver Hayes Heinecke tossed two and 1/3 scoreless innings for the Beach Birds, claiming a hold. Roy Garcia then worked around two base runners to open the ninth by striking out three Jupiter batters in succession.

Offensively, catcher Aaron McKeithan went 3-4 with a run for Palm Beach, and Tovalin matched that line while also driving in a run. The first baseman Whalen was also 2-4 on the evening with a pair of RBI.

For the Hammerheads, starting pitcher Luis Palacios took the loss after going six innings.

With the Cardinals' win, the teams see the season series tied at five games apiece. Five matchups remain in this six-game series, with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch slated for Wednesday night. It will be Silver Sluggers night at the ballpark, and Tink Hence is slated to pitch for the Cardinals.
