Captains Take Two from TinCaps on Thursday

(Eastlake, OH)- The Lake County Captains swept a double header from Fort Wayne on Thursday Night. Lake County won the first game 6-3 and the nightcap by a final of 6-4. The Captains have played in three double dips on the season and each has resulted in a sweep. The Captains have been swept once and have now swept their second twin bill.

The Captains won game one by a final of 6-3. The TinCaps jumped out to the quick 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The RBI hits for Fort Wayne came from Henry Charles and Josh VanMeter.

The Captains had a four run bottom of the third inning. The Captains sent nine men to the plate and used four hits and a walk to score the runs. In the inning, Nellie Rodriguez singled home a run. The bases were loaded and quickly un-loaded on an RBI double from Dorssys Paulino. The score was 4-2 headed to the fourth.

In the fifth inning, Fort Wayne tacked on a run to make it 4-3. The Captains quickly added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eric Haase knocked home two with a single and the score was 6-3. That was the final.

In game two, The TinCaps again got out to the early lead. This time it was 3-0 headed to the bottom of the third inning. Fort Wayne scored two in the second and one in the third. The Captains tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Claudio Bautista had an RBI on a sac fly followed by a RBI single by Paul Hendrix and an error, which helped another run score and tied the game at 3-3.

Fort Wayne took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Luis Tejada and the score was 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth inning, with two outs and a runner on second Richard Stock served a single to center and the run scored. Lake County tied the game at 4-4. Lake County took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clint Frazier walked, was sacrificed to second base and scored on two consecutive wild pitches and the score was 5-4 Lake County. Dorssys Paulino tripled home a run on the sixth and the Captains led 6-4.

RHP Zach McAllister (0-0) started for Lake County in game one and did not get a decision. McAllister on rehab assignment from Cleveland, pitched four and one third inning and allowed nine hits, three earned runs, one walk and he fanned four. Caleb Hamrick (2-3) pitched two and two thirds scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and he struck out one. Hamrick earned the win.

RHP Adrian De Horta (0-2) started for Fort Wayne in game one and took the loss. De Horta lasted just two and two thirds innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs. De Horta walked three and struck out four. The TinCaps used two pitchers in relief and allowed a combined four hits and two earned runs. The bullpen fanned two.

In game two, Lake County started RHP Mitch Brown (0-6). Brown did not get a decision. Brown pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits. He had two walks and struck out six. Brown allowed one homerun. Matt Whitehouse (2-1) entered in relief in the fifth inning, and pitched three innings of relief to earn the win.

Fort Wayne sent RHP Erik Cabrera (2-4) to the mound in Game Two. Cabrera pitched five innings an allowed five runs, three earned runs on six hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Cabrera took the loss. RHP Nick Mutz pitched one inning and allowed two hits and one earned run.

With the kick-off of the summer season, the Captains will celebrate Opening Day Part Deux on Friday at 7 PM. The night will feature the pageantry and pomp and circumstance associated with a traditional Opening Day as the Captains welcome the warm summer months. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 2014 Magnet Schedule presented by Wickliffe County Place.

Friday is also a Friday Fireworks Night presented by Universal Windows Direct and 92.3 FM The Fan and will feature fireworks set to a Top 40 Hits Soundtrack.

The first 1,500 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a Captains Wall Decal presented by Bruce Custom Graphics.
