Snappers Escape with 9-8 Victory over Chiefs
June 5, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc - Unlike Wednesday's game that saw three combined runs, the Snappers and Chiefs exploded for 17 runs in a 9-8 Beloit victory Thursday night.
The Snappers managed to hold off Peoria's fierce comeback as Beloit nearly squandered an early 7-2 lead. Each time the Chiefs threatened to take the lead, however, the Snappers found a timely answer.
After both teams put up two runs in the first inning, the Snappers broke the game wide open in the second inning as Beloit put up 5 runs. After a Melvin Mercedes RBI-single, Jaycob Brugman hit a 3-run double to give the Snappers a 6-2 lead. Beloit ended the inning with one more run, as Tyler Marincov sent Brugman home on a sacrifice fly to left field.
Peoria's bats wouldn't remain quiet for long, however, as the Chiefs responded in the third inning. Ronald Castillo blasted a two-run home run over the tall center field wall and the Chiefs cut the deficit to 7-4.
The Snappers added one more run in the fourth inning, but Peoria's offense rallied once again in the sixth inning. Mason Katz brought the Chiefs within one run as he delivered a three-run home run.
Tyler Marincov didn't wait long to respond to Katz's home run as he led off the bottom of the frame with a solo shot of his own. Peoria would add one more run in the 7th inning to bring the game to 9-8, but couldn't manage another run to tie the game.
Lou Trivino lasted 5.2 innings on the mound for the Snappers, giving up six hits and five earned runs. Alex Reyes only managed 3.2 innings for the Chiefs, allowing eight hits and six earned runs.
Ronald Castillo went 3-for-4 on the night for the Chiefs, with four RBI's. Tyler Marincov went 2-for-2 for the Snappers with three runs batted in.
The Snappers will return to Pohlman Field tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. looking for a sweep of the Peoria Chiefs.
