
Captains Take Three of Four from Lexington

(Eastlake, OH) - Dustin Realini and Matt Willard had three RBI's each as the Captains rolled to a 10-4 victory over the Lexington Legends at Classic Park on Monday. The Captains took three of four games against Lexington in the series. The Captains (28-15) are now 4.5 games ahead of both Delmarva and Greensboro.
The Captains jumped out on top in the second inning off starter Jeff Icenogle. With the bases loaded, Michael Valdez singled home Roman Pena. Matt Willard then hit a sacrifice fly to score Jeff Hehr and the Captains led 2-0. Joey Mahalic relieved Indians closer Joe Borowski who pitched the first inning of the game in a rehab appearance. In the third inning, the Legends loaded the bases with none out and were only able to muster one run on a sacrifice fly by Russell Dixon. The Captains tacked on four more runs in the third inning. Dustin Realini and Pena had RBI's and Willard picked up two more RBI's to make it 6-1. The lead was extended to 9-1 in the fourth inning when the Captains got a RBI from Hehr and two more from Realini.
The Legends picked up three runs in the sixth inning on only one hit against Mahalic to make it 9-4. The Captains picked up their tenth run in the eighth inning when Mark Thompson tripled and scored on Adam White's sacrifice fly. Mahalic got the win and improved his record to 2-0. Icenogle took the loss to drop to 0-3.
The home stand continues on Tuesday as the West Virginia Power comes to town to play five games in four days including a 12:05 PM doubleheader on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Captains will send LHP Kelvin De La Cruz (3-2, 1.77) to the mound against the Powers LHP Dan Merklinger (0-3, 7.00). Tuesday's promotion is Taco Tuesday featuring $1 tacos. It's also My Two Cents Night where all fans will be given the opportunity to give their two cents about what they've liked or disliked at Classic Park in 2008. It will be their night to voice their opinions. As an added bonus, all fans that voice their opinion at the "My Two Cents" concourse table will receive two cents ($0.02) in return. The News-Herald High School Home Run Derby will continue after the game on Tuesday. The contest goes on after every Tuesday home Captains game with the finals following the game on July 8th. (Eastlake, OH) - The South Atlantic League announced today that Captains starting pitcher Ryan Miller has been named SAL pitcher of the week for the week of May 12th through the 18th.
Miller, a 21 year old left hander out of Cypress Texas, was 2-0 with an ERA of 0.79. He had two starts in which he pitched 11.1 innings and allowed one run, six hits, four walks and struck out fourteen. On the season he leads the league with a 7-0 record and also leads the league with the lowest ERA, 1.02. Miller will pitch again for the Captains on Friday, May 23rd at 7:05 versus West Virginia.
Miller will be honored during a pre game ceremony at Classic Park on Tuesday, May 20th prior to the game against West Virginia. Miller is the first Captain to receive a player of the week award this season.
