Jackets and Catfish Split Series

Columbus, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (25-19) and Columbus Catfish (19-25) split their four game series with the Catfish winning the series finale 11-2 on Monday night. Starter T.J. Brewer suffered the loss and Columbus plated seven runs in the eighth inning to break the game open.
With Augusta trailing 4-2 in the eighth inning, the Catfish scored seven times on seven hits to put the game out of reach. Daniel Turpen allowed six runs in the half inning and did not record an out. Orlando Yntema allowed one more run as he recorded the three outs in the half inning.
With the bases loaded Columbus got back-to-back RBI singles from Henry Wrigley and Stephen Vogt then Seth Dhaenens came through with a two-run single for an 8-2 lead. Omar Luna and Jackson Brennan each followed with RBI hits then Maiko Loyola capped off the scoring with an RBI sac-fly to center.
The GreenJackets had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but the Catfish rallied back each time including plating three runs in the fifth inning off of Brewer to take a 4-2 lead. Shawn Williams connected for a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 2-2 then Loyola followed with a two run single to give the Catfish a 4-2 lead.
Brewer (2-3) worked five innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out two in the loss.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-out RBI double from Thomas Neal.
Columbus came right back in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single from Greg Sexton.
The GreenJackets reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI sac-fly from Andrew Davis for a 2-1 advantage.
The GreenJackets begin an eight game home stand on Tuesday night starting with four games against the Savannah Sand Gnats, South Atlantic League affiliate of the New York Mets. Augusta will send left-hander Craig Clark (2-0, 4.28) to the mound Tuesday. Savannah counters with lefty Angel Calero (0-4, 2.68). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
The GreenJackets are 15-7 on the road this season and finished 5-2 on the current road trip.
Augusta is 13-4 in the month of May with all four losses coming from Columbus.
The GreenJackets had three batters hit by a pitch, Angel Villalona, Nick Noonan and Charlie Culberson.
