(Eastlake, OH) - Mark Thompson drove in the game winning run with a single in the tenth inning that scored Adam White as the Captains captured a come from behind victory against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Monday night. The Captains trailed 3-0 and then 4-2 but battled back for the win. The Captains remain a half of game out of first place behind Greensboro and Hickory as they both won.
The BlueClaws struck first in the second inning off Captains starter Santo Frias. Freddy Galvis walked. He stole second on a strikeout and proceeded to third when the throw by catcher Doug Pickens hit him and rolled to short left field. He would score on a sacrifice fly by Derrick Mitchell. The Claws got another run in the fourth. Dominic Brown was hit by a pitch and then stole second base. Herman Demmink would single him home to make it 2-0. Lakewood added another run in fifth off of reliever Kyle Landis taking advantage of two Captains errors and a passed ball to take a 3-0 lead.
The Captains got on the board in the fifth off BlueClaws starter Tyson Brummett. Brummett had retired the first twelve Captains that he faced. Jeff Hehr led off the fifth with a double. Three batters later Hehr scored on an RBI single by Doug Pickens. The Captains would leave two runners on in the inning. The Captains would draw to within one run in the sixth inning when Lucas Montero led off the inning with a triple and then score on a ground out by Mark Thompson.
The BlueClaws added a run off Landis in the seventh when Michael Taylor hit his first home run of the year to make it 4-2. Brummett started the seventh inning but after walking the lead off hitter Chris Nash and giving up a single to Pickens, he was replaced by Ben Pfinsgraff. Pfinsgraff would give up an RBI single to Adam White and a RBI groundout to Lucas Montero and the Captains tied the game at 4-4.
