SALISBURY, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (6-6) split a double header with the Delmarva Shorebirds (6-6) on Tuesday, April 15th at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, MD. The Suns dropped the first game 6-2, before beating the Shorebirds 5-0 in the nightcap. Both games were seven innings long.
In game one of the double header, the Suns dug themselves an early whole and never recovered. The Shorebirds scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning off starter Jeff Mandel (0-1) on six singles.
Delmarva added two more runs to their tally in the fifth inning when first baseman Joe Mahoney hit his first home run of the year and catcher Wally Crancer tripled, driving in DH Kieron Pope to give the Shorebirds a 6-0 lead.
The Suns rallied in the top of the seventh inning, but after Michael Burgess and Tim Pahuta came around to make it a four-run game, the Suns ran out of steam.
John Mariotti (1-1) earned the win for the Shorebirds in game one, pitching six shutout innings. Mandel picked up the loss after surrendering all six runs in four and two thirds innings of work. Game two of the double header got off to a much better start for the Suns, as Francisco Plasencia and Steven Souza scored in the top of the second inning to give the Suns a lead.

He gave up two hits and struck out two while earning his second victory of the season. Martin Beno worked the last two innings for the Suns.
Zach Clark (1-2) took the loss for the Shorebirds, lasting just three and one third inning while giving up five earned runs and eight hits.
Hagerstown catcher Jhonatan Solano hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning with a runner on board to give the suns a four nothing lead. The Suns added a third run in the top half of fifth inning to give them a five run lead in the game.
