
Captains Lose To BlueClaws 5-3

(Eastlake, OH) - A three run rally in the fifth inning was the difference on Tuesday afternoon as the Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Captains 5-3. Michael Taylor had two RBI doubles to lead the way for Lakewood. BlueClaws starter Julian Sampson went seven innings giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one to notch the first victory by a BlueClaws starter this season. Yen-Feng Lin pitched the final two innings and secured his first save of the year. The BlueClaws got off to fast start in the first inning off of Captains starter Kelvin De La Cruz. D'Arby Myers led off the game with a walk. He stole second and made it a 1-0 game when he came around to score on a RBI double by Michael Taylor. Lakewood added another run in the fourth inning when Dennis Winn doubled in Michael Durant who had led off the inning with a walk. The Captains tied it up 2-2 in the fourth on a two RBI double by Matt Brown off of the BlueClaws starter Julian Sampson. The tie was short lived as the BlueClaws picked up three runs in the fifth on consecutive RBI hits from Karl Bolt, Taylor and Durant to take a 5-2 lead. The Captains added a run in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but fell short.
De La Cruz took the loss to drop his record to 1-1 going 4.2 innings giving up 5 runs on five hits, walking five and striking out two. Josh Judy pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Captains striking out four. Jonathan Holt replaced Judy and pitched two scoreless innings.
The Captains head to Lakewood NJ for games on Wednesday and Thursday before returning home on Friday for a three game weekend series against the Hagerstown Suns, the class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Captains send LHP Ryan Morris to the mound versus Lakewood's LHP Jacob Diekman. Game time 6:35 PM on Wednesday and 11:05 AM on Thursday. The promotion this Friday is Frost Bite Night, where all fans receive a free ticket to a future game if the temperature falls below 40 degrees. This Sunday is a Plevin & Gallucci Family Fun Day, featuring pre-game autographs and concourse entertainment. Plus, Kids Run the Bases (post-game) presented by Andrews Osborne Academy.
