Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

EASTLAKE, Ohio - A five-run rally in the eighth inning Sunday pushed the Lake County Captains to a 7-2 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Classic Park. The Captains batted around against Daniel Cropper in the eighth, collecting seven hits, and tying the series at one game apiece with the win. In the losing effort, Yeison Asencio collected four hits for Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne (27-30) starter Ruben Mejia, making his second start since joining the rotation, allowed just one run over five innings. A second-inning RBI single by Leonardo Castillo made it 1-0 Lake County (27-29), and the score held that way until the sixth.

Asencio knocked in Tyler Stubblefield with a one-out single in the sixth, tying the game at one. In the seventh, Duanel Jones secured a one-out double and was plated on a single by Kyle Gadele. That broke the tie and put Fort Wayne on top 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh TinCaps reliever Dennis O'Grady recorded three outs, but he wasn't out of the inning. With two men down, he struck out Francisco Lindor, but the ball got away from catcher Austin Hedges, allowing Lindor to take first on a wild pitch. Lefty reliever Robert Eisenbach came in from the bullpen to face Jordan Smith. During Smith's at bat, Lindor stole both second and third. Lindor eventually scored on a game-tying single by Alex Lavisky.

Daniel Cropper (3-1) came on to pitch for the TinCaps in the eighth. Prior to Sunday's outing, Cropper had worked 17 innings and allowed three runs. With the game tied at two, Cropper surrendered seven hits and five runs in the frame. The Captains batted around in the inning, which came to an end when Jordan Smith, who was trying to score from second, was thrown out at home by Mykal Stokes.

Grant Sides (1-0) earned the win for Lake County, tossing three innings of one-run baseball.

The rubber match of the three game series is scheduled for Monday at 7:00 PM. The scheduled starters are Cody Hebner for Fort Wayne and Joe Colon for Lake County.
