Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The BlueClaws offense showed signs of life on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park, but not enough to overcome a late Lake County rally in a 6-4 loss.

Mike Durant clubbed his first home run of the season and drove in three to lead the BlueClaws offensive charge. His second-inning double scored Michael Taylor for the team's first run of the season. The BlueClaws were shutout 4-0 in the season opener on Thursday night.

Durant's sixth inning blast gave the BlueClaws a 4-3 lead, but the Captains responded with a run in the eighth to tie the game and two more in the ninth to take the lead for good.

Chance Chapman issued three walks in one inning in his Lakewood debut, including a bases-loaded free pass that brought the tying run across in the eighth. Jared Simon (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs in the ninth, both coming across on a double by Karexon Sanchez.

Tyson Brummett made the start for the BlueClaws and allowed three runs, one earned, in five innings. The right-hander also struck out five and walked two. The biggest blow against Brummett came in the fourth, when the Captains managed two unearned runs following an error by Travis Mattair.

Sloppy defense was on display for the second straight evening as each team committed a pair of errors. The BlueClaws also failed to execute on a sacrifice bunt attempt in the top of the ninth, helping to fuel the decisive rally.

Jared Judy took the victory for the Captains, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for starter Ryan Morris. Judy (1-0) fanned three without allowing a base runner. Vinnie Pestano came in and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save of the season.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park.
