Hagerstown Suns News Release

SALISBURY, MD - For the second time in as many nights the Hagerstown Suns (2-0) have dispatched the Delmarva Shorebirds (0-2) in dramatic fashion.

After winning in 14 innings on Thursday, the Suns ended it in nine on Friday after scoring three runs in the final two innings, winning by a final score of 8-6. The Suns offense was paced by the long ball, as Michael Burgess, Stephen King and Jake Smolinski all hit home runs for the Suns. Burgess homered in the top half of the second inning to score the first run of the game, while King's two-run blast in the sixth inning brought the Suns within one run and Jake Smolinski tied it with a solo shot in the eighth.

Reliever Terrence Engles (1-0) got the win for Hagerstown, pitching three innings of scoreless baseball in relief of starter Colten willems. Willems lasted five innings and allowed all six Shorebird runs, though only four of the runs were earned. Clint Everts retired Delmarva in order to record his first save.

Much like Thursday's season opener, the deciding runs were scored due to an error by the Shorebirds.

This time, it was Delmarva second baseman Ryan Adams who committed the error, allowing catcher Sean Rooney to advance to third and Daniel Lyons to reach base with two outs. Two batters later, first baseman Bill Rhinehart singled up the middle, driving in both Rooney and Lyons.

Rhinehart had three hits and three RBI on the night. The Suns and Shorebirds will play the third game of their four game series on Saturday, April 5th. First pitch will be at 7:05 P.M., and radio coverage begins at 6:40 P.M. on True Oldies 95.9 FM. The Suns first home game will take place on Friday, April 11th at 6:35 P.M. against the Lake County Captains.

The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling the Suns at 301-791- 6266. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
